Prince Charles Spearheads 'The Wool Project'

Tuesday 05 Apr 2011

HRH Prince Charles is currently spearheading a 5 year campaign called 'The Wool Project'. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to buy more wool products, from carpets to clothing to home insulation. The Wool Project aims to bring the fashion, carpet and textile Industries together to increase demand for wool and raise its worth to upland farmers.

Most carpets that are made with a high percentage of synthetic products are made from plastic and generally sit in landfill for years. Therefore if more woollen carpet was used in the U.K, the country as a whole would be cutting carbon emissions drastically.

As part of his visit to Bradford on 22nd November 2010, Prince Charles visited Harrison Gardner & Co. Ltd., who have specialised in quality hank dyeing and space dyeing for over 100 years. HRH met directors Daniel Harrison and Jonathan Harrison who are the 4th generation of the family business. Harrison Gardner have dyed yarn for the carpets in Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace. Newhey have been ordering yarn from Harrison Gardner for over 25 years and are proud to say we have a great working partnership.

The Campaign has already seen support from John Lewis, Jaeger, Top Shop, Burberry and Marks & Spencer. We would like to ask everyone to support 'The Wool Project' however possible. If you would like to read more about this campaign, visit HRH's Official Site or Woolipedia.
